Built in 1829, Key West’s oldest wood frame vernacular home (a simple wood frame building, which is the product of the builder’s experience, available resources and response to the environment)  and its cookhouse located in the beautiful garden.

History

In 1968, an extremely large, significant, and beloved architectural building was demolished with little advance notice. This grand building, built in 1857, was the Convent of Mary Immaculate. The citizens of Key West were outraged by this loss and this led to the island’s preservation movement.

The Key West Oldest House on Duval Street was restored by the Historic Key West Preservation Board and Old Island Restoration Foundation, which manages the museum.
